Das BiB lädt zur Vortragsreihe am 20. März 2024 von 11:00 bis 12:15 Uhr ein. Prof. Daniele Vignoli referiert zum Thema „Can Policy Reforms Enhance Fertility? An Ex-Ante Evaluation through Factorial Survey Experiments“.
Daniele Vignoli ist Professor für Demografie an der Universität Florenz und Präsident der Italian Association for Population Studies. Seine Forschung befasst sich mit Familiendemografie, Sozialdemografie und dem Lebensverlauf. Im Jahr 2017 erhielt er einen ERC Consolidator Grant zum Thema "Economic Uncertainty and Fertility in Europe". Derzeit ist er wissenschaftlicher Koordinator des Forschungsprogramms Age-It (Ageing Well in an Ageing Society), das durch den National Recovery and Resilience Plan gefördert wird.
This talk discusses the theoretical and empirical drawbacks of existing studies on the family policies/fertility nexus. It also proposes a novel perspective to assess the role of family policies on fertility through the use of factorial survey experiments (FSE). Results of a FSE carried out for Italy show that the availability of full-time, public childcare services seems more relevant than higher child benefits, whereas more generous and gender-equal parental leaves are perceived as less important. Results also suggest that marginal changes in single policy levers are most likely ineffective and that a couple’s socioeconomic status is perceived as more important than family policies for fertility decisions.
