German Demographic Portal
Policy for all Generations
At the first demography summit on October 4, 2012, the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) started the Demographic Portal of Germany and its Federal States by order of the German Federal Government. The portal is a fundamental element of the demographic strategy of the government for the development of a new comprehensive demographic policy – a policy for all generations.
Demographic change concerns everyone, its successful handling depends on everyone: The Federal Government, the states, local communities, social partners, organisations and citizens. With facts and figures, the demography portal aims to inform about the future demographic policy and invite readers to discuss it.
Facts and figures are an important basis for a societal dialogue about demographic change. By means of commented statistics, summaries of studies and reports as well as presentations of concepts and strategies, the Demographic Portal informs about causes, trends and consequences of demographic change.
By publishing the Demographic Strategy the Federal Government launched a wide sociatal discussion. The Demographic Portal wants to encourage all societal actors to take part in this discussion. Using your knowledge and your experiences you can give new impetus to a demographic policy for the whole of Germany.
In many communities and regions projects have been started which show the will to deal with the consequences of demographic change. Successful projects, innovative ideas and practise-oriented guidance are presented in the portal, which are intended to support the federal states, local communities and other actors realising demography-related approaches of action.
