Policy Advice
Demographic change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Its impact on society, the state, the economy and every individual in Germany entails numerous tasks. As a departmental research institute, the BiB investigates key consequences such as the shortage of skilled labour, increasing diversity and changing lifestyles. It also focuses on current topics such as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and refugee migration to Germany. At the same time, the institute researches long-term demographic topics in order to prepare politics and society for future challenges.
BiB's research findings form the basis for evidence-based advice to the Federal Government and all its departments. It also shares its findings with other political actors and the public, responds to enquiries, and prepares scientific expert reports.
In addition, the BiB supports the Federal Government in international cooperation on population issues within the framework of the United Nations.
