Invitation | 11.06.2025BiB Population Research Series
The BiB invites you to the lecture series on July 2 from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm. Prof. Beate Ditzen presents her paper “Psychobiological Mechanisms underlying the Effects of Romantic Couple Interactions on Individual Health”.
Beate Ditzen is Professor of Medical Psychology and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University and Chair of the Institute of Medical Psychology at Heidelberg University Hospital. Her research focuses on the psychobiology of attachment, hormonal stress responses in social relationships, and neuroendocrine processes in couple interactions.
Abstract
Romantic couple relationships exert a significant influence on both mental and physical health, and even on individual survival. This influence is mediated through psychobiological mechanisms, including hormonal pathways. This raises the question of how hormones affect specific couple interactions and, conversely, how close attachment relationships may influence hormonal activity.
This contribution presents current findings from laboratory and ambulatory assessments, focusing on various endocrine markers and health parameters and with particular attention to gender differences and the specific phases of romantic relationships in their effects on health.
Location
The event will take place on the 3rd floor of the BiB in presence and online as a Webex conference.
