Effects of the Corona Pandemic on Educational Potentials in Germany
Content and Objectives
The project will focus on the impact of Corona pandemic-related infection control measures on children, youth, and families in 2020 and 2021, with particular emphasis on the impact of daycare and school closures. The well-being of those who are in educational processes, but also of those who accompany educational processes, is of interest for the development of educational potential. The aim of the research project is to identify longer-term effects on well-being and skills important for educational processes (e.g., socioemotional skills, willingness to learn) for different socioeconomic and demographic groups dependent on personality, cognitive skills, academic performance, and willingness to learn before the pandemic. In this context, well-being is measured with different measures of satisfaction, but also indicators of mental health. Changes in children's and adolescents' educational aspirations will be studied separately as a central indicator of educational success - possible changes in the assessment of educational attainment due to the pandemic are particularly relevant for the evaluation of medium-term developments. Another focus will be on educational transitions that are of high developmental relevance (such as from daycare to school, from elementary school to secondary school, and from school to vocational training or university).
Data and Methods
The analyses are based on SOEP and SOEP-CoV. Other data sources include administrative data and FReDA.
