Spacial and Social Mobility

Content and Objectives

First of all, it will be examined whether certain societal groups benefit more or less from spatial mobility. In this context, the consequences for socio-structural disparities will be identified.

In the second step, multi-level micro-macro-links will be applied to analyse the role of the regional context regarding the correlations. The investigations follow on from the "escalator region” hypothesis developed by Fielding (1992). According to this hypothesis, moving to certain regions has a positive effect on social status.

The third part of the study will examine the effects of spatial mobility at the couple or household level in order to identify who benefits, and to allow conclusions to be drawn on the decision-making situation.
